The EMAC® Firestop Cord: the solution applied in 60 buildings across three continents

The barrier to prevent the passage of smoke and flames has been installed in airports, stations, hospitals, hotels, and iconic buildings in Europe, America, and Africa.

The Casablanca Airport in Morocco, the Mercadona offices in Parc Sagunt, the 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid, and more than 60 iconic buildings across three continents have integrated the EMAC® Group Firestop Cord. This innovative and pioneering solution for building expansion joints acts as a barrier in case of fire, protecting against the passage of smoke and flames.

“Our Firestop Cord achieves airtightness against flames and hot or flammable gases, preventing the chimney effect between construction elements. This ensures that fire and smoke remain confined to the fire sectors defined in the project in accordance with regulations,” says Emi Boix, CEO of EMAC® Group.

Countries such as Luxembourg, France, Bolivia, the USA, Belgium, Venezuela, Morocco, Italy, and Niger have trusted this solution, which provides fire safety and is particularly important and critical in buildings and facilities with high traffic. This includes hospitals, airports, train and metro stations, hotels, industrial warehouses, football fields, basketball stadiums, business centers, educational buildings, and residential buildings.

The Firestop Cord is present in more than 60 significant national and international buildings. Some of these projects include the Casablanca Airport in Morocco, hospitals such as the 12 de Octubre in Madrid, the Materno-Infantil Quirónsalud in Seville, and the Military Hospital in Quart de Poblet, Yelmo Cinemas, the Mercadona offices in Parc Sagunt, the Aitex building in Alcoy, and the Barceló Playa Hotel in Lanzarote.

The firestop cord is made of non-combustible and rot-proof mineral fibers covered with a fiberglass mesh. In case of fire, it does not lose resistance to fire, aggressive chemical agents, or moisture. The solution has the necessary certifications and tests according to the European Standard for classification based on the fire performance of construction products and building elements.

An innovative and pioneering system

EMAC is a pioneer in integrating fire safety into building joints and incorporating it into the so-called Structural Joint System. The Firestop Cord is part of this system, which also includes the Structural Joint Profile (Novojunta® Pro) and the Novomembrane EPDM. These elements can be installed together, providing a complete technical construction solution, or separately.
“The Firestop Cord is an essential solution for building safety, and when used together with the joint profile and membrane - Structural Joint System - we maximize the utility of joint solutions and enhance the fire safety of structures,” explains the CEO of EMAC® Group.
The Structural Joint Profile (Novojunta® Pro) is the main and visible element of this system, and its primary function is to cover the structural joint gap in the final layer of the coating. Meanwhile, EMAC®'s Novomembrane EPDM acts as a complement to the joint's waterproofing, ensuring that its movement properties are preserved.
