Success Story | El Corte Inglés Plaza de Catalonia

Located in the heart of Barcelona, El Corte Inglés at Plaza de Catalonia represents one of those spaces where everything happens: constant traffic, high aesthetic demands and top performance requirements. EMAC® Group contributed to this project with solutions capable of meeting these standards of performance and safety while maintaining an aesthetic aligned with the space.

High-traffic commercial areas present very specific challenges: continuous wear, structural movements caused by thermal changes, and the need to maintain a refined appearance over time.

To address these challenges, a combination of EMAC® systems and solutions was selected, designed to work together and ensure both technical performance and final results.

Solutions to ensure durability

One of the key aspects of the project was the proper management of expansion joints, essential to ensure the durability of the flooring.

Novojunta® Pro Basic is a versatile solution for joints up to 40 mm. Its aluminum structure, combined with an EPDM rubber insert, absorbs multidirectional movements and withstands demanding conditions such as thermal changes or heavy use. Additionally, its adaptability to different substrate heights enabled precise on-site integration.

Additionally, Novojunta® Metallic manages stresses caused by floor expansion and contraction, combining functionality and finish. Its design allows for subsequent floor polishing, achieving aesthetic continuity.

Beyond technical performance, the project required solutions capable of providing aesthetic coherence and precision in material transitions.

With Novosepara® 1 brass, transitions between different floorings were resolved with a clean and sophisticated finish. Its bending capacity and compatibility with materials such as marble or terrazzo allowed it to adapt to the design’s specific requirements, enhancing the final result.

Accessibility is essential in any public space. In this project, Novoband® Access was implemented, a system that facilitates orientation for visually impaired people and improves overall safety.

Its resistance to heavy traffic and discreet integration into the flooring allow it to perform its function without interfering with the space’s aesthetics, aligning with EMAC® commitment to universal design.

Building spaces that work

The intervention at El Corte Inglés Plaza de Catalonia reflects the essence of EMAC®: developing solutions that combine innovation, design and functionality to meet the real needs of each project.

Because it is not just about building spaces, but about making them work over time, ensuring safety for people and maintaining their aesthetic value from day one.

We continue working with this objective: providing solutions that connect materials, enhance spaces and make a difference in every detail.
